I'm glad I found this blog. @John's comment is absolutely my view of this kind of thing and I'm glad he articulated. Nothing like a good pint of beer. And those trendy bars are always too loud.

The golden age of blogging was back when we bloggers damn near made a President.

The silver age is when a President co-opted the blogosphere and used us as tools to make himself.

Thanks, all!

@Chris: On the logical progression of "social" "networking" technology, I highly recommend M.T. Anderson's devastatingly plausible young-adult sci-fi novel, Feed. It's basically what you describe, except hardwired into the brain and with ads.

There was an article in the NYTimes the other day declaring that Facebook is dead. So, the rule seems to go that the first person to declare something dead wins!

Big. Deal.

Well, I declare death dead. Have you noticed that when a band appears on a talk show these days, the hosts holds up the band's new LP? Spoooooky.

The natural progression here:
The Golden Age of Letter Writing
The Golden Age of the Telephone
The Golden Age of Email
The Golden Age of Blogging
The Golden Age of Tweeting

So what will be next in our evolution of depersonalizing interpersonal communication as we continue our transformation from meaningful interaction with another human being to the pursuit of audience? Pictograms. Rebus puzzle-esque blasts via mandatory iPhone "friend" networks consisting of just a series of swiped images off Google in breathtaking violation of copyright law and possibly the Geneva Conventions, perhaps interspersed with actual text letters and characters vestigial from Twitter's Linear A type leetspeek that nobody above the age of 30 can understand (@Powell @Atzerodt @Herold RT@Booth Sic Semper Tyrannus! http://bit.ly/1628nB #Lincoln).

Allow me to make the analogy I'm familiar with: the bar.

Hip, trendy nightspots come and go. The booze is watered down and overpriced, the music is too loud, and the beautiful people only come to see and be seen. And eventually the gaggle moves on to the next new thing, leaving the bar to survive on the strength of their product... which is why they are doomed to close their doors within six months.

But a good pub that pours a good pint, where you can relax and engage in some fun craic with your mates, now that's timeless.

So yeah, please don't stop. I'll always belly up to this bar. I'm rather fond of the old coot in the corner and his "back in my day" rants.

Excellent.

Can I be old and cranky with you in my love for the blogging medium? Even if I haven't updated in a while.
